Ah yes, the inevitable panic when you – a solo small business owner – finds yourself away from your business for the better part of a week. While I set up for the Association Of Animal Artists Spring Exhibition, my creative and packing departments are going to be out of action. So it’s time to put my (flimsy) marketing hat on and ensure my social media picks up the slack. But as I sat pondering this today, my overriding thought was “what on earth will I post if I’m not in the studio painting?”
Truthfully, social media has felt like an uphill battle lately. All three of the platforms I use are suppressing content, making it increasingly difficult for people to reach customers. It’s a huge worry for businesses like myself who are small, solo ventures trying to build a healthier life for themselves around their passion. The collective atmosphere among creatives online right now is one of frustration, but equally there’s a quiet determination to smash through these new algorithms that feel like they’re against us.
Of all the advice I’ve heard from marketing professionals “people connect with people” is the thing I think most of us struggle to truly unpack. We’re so busy trying to juggle everything, and get our creations out there that showing the face behind our brand falls by the wayside. With that in mind, I pulled together this little 7 day prompt challenge! Every day gives you the chance to connect with your audience directly, and build a much deeper relationship with them. It can be used on any platform; I’m going to use it as a way to kickstart this blog, which I’ve been meaning to do for ages, and share across all my socials. I really can’t wait to see what you guys come up with in response!
